A few of my favorite finds

So I decided to photograph a few of my favorite recent finds! I get so excited when I come across interesting items like this!

The first picture is of a children's lamp shade I came across at this little thrift shop in downtown Monroe. He's sooo cute, plus if you turn him he plays music. I thought it might be circa 1950s or 1960s, but I'm not positive. Regardless, I'm keeping him for new apartment!

The second pictures are of this sleeveless dress I found! It has the most unusual print; which I think is the coolest thing ever! There's birds, people, trees etc etc on an olive green dress. I haven't decided if I'm selling it or not. Its a tad large on me, so Im not sure what I'll do with it.

The third photos are of an old mexican camera bag I found. It has the Aztec calender on the rear side and a picture of one of their gods with an eagle head dress on it. It's just what I was looking for, even better actually.

The fourth is of a sweeeeeet bird necklace I got at a weird little Saturday mornings only community thrift shop. The bird looks more like a space/alien bird, but compliments a lot of my dresses.

AGH! THESE ARE OUT OF ORDER! I GIVE UP ON TRYING TO LOAD THEM INTO THE RIGHT ORDER- HOPE YOU STILL GET THE IDEA !

Oh my!

So tonight I came home to a pile of mail! I had ordered some note pads on etsy and those came (so cute- thank you nutandbee!), but I also came home to an acceptance letter to attend Savannah School of Art and Design! I didn't think I would 'not' get accepted so it wasn't really suprising to me. BUT!!! There was another package also from SCAD and it was... A PRESIDENTAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD for $20k a year!!! Holy crap! That's almost a full ride to SCAD! I can't believe it, really! This is so exciting! I am also wondering how I will manage to keep Mid West Vintage alive if I'm busy in school. I am determined to keep Mid West Vintage alive, as I love doing it. I'm majoring in photography so I think I will just try to incorporate vintage finds into some of the work I will be doing at SCAD. I also plan on taking some metalsmithing and textile classes there. I would love to make jewelry and/or a few cool dresses. Alright! Time for sleep and then work early in the A.M.!

A few things

BOOTS ARE SOLD!

BELT FOR SALE: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13297344

WEDGE SANDALS COMING SOON! SO CUTE!!

There's a new pair of boots added to the shop today. They are AMAZING and I can't believe they even exist! They have the coolest western scene on them of a cowboy with fringe pants, monument valley in the background and colorful cactuses. Plus they have metallic little spurs and neat colorful patterns on them. I am in awe of these things; not to mention whoever owned them wore them like twice? Wow.

My boyfriend and I are going out to eat at our favorite Coney Island in my town tonight. Last Friday we tried to go, but the place was closed for the weekend for July 4th. We were so bummed, so we went and tried another coney island, but it wasn't the same. I love getting fried zucchini and ranch dip at our favorite coney island. Also, the gyros and lemon rice soup rock! Hopefully later we can pick back up on the second season of our favorite show, the X-Files! Thank you library!

Time to go!

Toko, the cute Mid West Poster Child!

I really loved working with my friend, Toko! She was my model for my advanced photo studio class. We had to create a set of images for a mock (or real) business. I chose to do my shop, Mid West Vintage! It was a lot of fun and Toko looks cute in just about everything! Here's a few ads I created using her. I wish I was better with graphic design, but I'm only good in photoshop with photo related things.

So aside from selling vintage clothing, I am a photographer. Almost a year ago to date I was among the top 6 finalists from the local universities to participate in an 'Emerging Artists' booth at the well recognized Ann Arbor Street Art Fair. I was selected because of my series of digital art that I had created. I was shocked to have been picked, especially since there was only 6 of us. Well, I had the best time doing it! It changed my outlook on life and being successful. I felt I could do anything after being apart of something so big and important. I sold lots of prints, talked to lots of great strangers, and met my boyfriend (he was an emerging artist in the booth as well; who was also a photographer). Anyhow, above are a couple images from the art fair last July!

feeling blah

So over the weekend I went to a community wide garage sale event in a small town called Luna Pier. Well, I didn't find any good clothing...and felt like asking the old folks what else they had in their house (but I didn't quite have the nerve to do that). I did get a neat shadow memory box that someone made with an old family picture in it and macaroni and other neat objects. Its meant to hang on a wall! It was 50 cents and I couldn't resist! I also picked up an old WWI trunk that belonged to a Bob Humphrey of Bay City, Michigan. I'm pretty excited about the trunk because I've wanted one for awhile now. Its a bit beat up, but will work nicely as a prop for some sort of photo project I have yet to determine. It's a lot of work searching for worthwhile items. I was exhausted by the time I went to about 35 garage sales. And I didnt even find much of anything good. I see why people charge so much for vintage and antiques because its a lot of work locating these items. I think I need a small break from searching for antiques and vintage items. I doubt it will be much of a break because I just can't stand to not be searching or visiting various thrift stores and garage sales.
